    Een van Suid-Afrikaanse musiek se “pioniers”, ‘n tromspeler en baskitaarspeler wat al die afgelope bykans dertig jaar sy merk gemaak het. En nou, as solokunstenaar, is Ralph Michielsen oorgehaal om die treffersparades met sy poprock-album, Die Een, te bestorm.

    Ralph het al op agtjarige ouderdom begin tromme speel. Op 18 jaar het hy begin sing en baskitaar speel. In die jare 80 steek hy en sy orkes, B-Sharp (later DUSK met Steve Hofmeyr as die hoogsanger), verhoë regoor die land aan die brand. Hy is ook later baskitaarspeler en agtergrondsanger vir Steve toe hy – kort op die hakke van sy sukses in die TV-reeks Agter Elke Man – op ‘n landwye toer vertrek.

    Dit was ook Steve wat Ralph aangemoedig het om in 2006 die liedjies wat hy self geskryf het, op te neem. Met die hulp van die produksieleier Andries Botha debuteer Ralph toe met die album Malpitmuti.

    Die Een bevat altesame 14 liedjies in Engels en Afrikaans; ‘n bruisende verskeidenheid van saamsing-treffers in ‘n pop- of rockstyl asook prag-ballades soos By My. Ralph se persoonlike gunsteling is Jy’s die Een – “my eerste werklike poging om self ‘n liedjie te skryf”. Hy is ook gek oor Sien jou staan, wat hy saam met sy goeie vriend Joe F geskryf het. “Dit is bedoel vir lekker langarm en sommer net saamsing.”

    Sy twee “prinsessies”, Angelene en Marlene, het ook hul deel gehad in sy tweede solo-album en sing saam met pappa die liedjie Oë van My Kind, ‘n liedjie wat reeds ongekende belangstelling op verskeie streeksradiostasies ontlok het.

    “Ek dink daar is ‘n liedjie op die CD vir ‘n ieder en ‘n elk. Van lekker rustig tot lekker dansliedjies. Daar is iets vir die romantiese dame of vir die man wat van sy rockkitare hou,” vertel die sanger-liedjieskrywer wat graag wil hê luisteraars moet besef “liefde is die wenner”.

    In die opname-ateljee is hy bygestaan deur die produksieleiers Rudi Massyn en Tertius Human. “Ek was bevoorreg om met die beste van die beste musikante op die CD te kan werk.” Hulle sluit in Mauritz Lotz (kitaar), Vinnie Henrico (tromme), Sailor (kitaar), Jasper van Rensburg (baskitaar), Andries Botha (kitaar), Human (kitaar), Massyn (kitaar en klavier), Hannes van der Walt (sang), Ezné Bosch (sang) en Andrew Roos (klavier).

    Ralph is ‘n hoogs talentvolle sanger-musikant wat selfs sy stempel op ‘n goue oue soos Prince se Purple Rain of sy Afrikaanse opname van Robbie Williams se Angels kan afdruk. Die Een is sommer nie net nog ‘n nuwe doef-doef-CD op die Afrikaanse musiekrak nie. Dit is woema-album deur een van dié land se heel voorste poprockers!

    One of South African music “pioneers”, a drummer and bassist made his mark in the music industry nearly thirty years ago. And now, as a solo artist, Ralph Michielsen eager to hit the SA market with his pop rock album, namely “die een”

    Ralph at the age of eight began playing drums. At 18 he started singing and playing bass guitar. In the 80s he head up his own band namely, B-Sharp (later DUSK with Steve as the main singer).  He was later the bassist and background vocalist for Steve Hofmeyer and toured through South Africa for awhile. It was Steve who encouraged Ralph to release his first album in 2009, and wrote a few songs for Ralph’s new album. With the help of the production leader Andries Botha, Ralph released his album Malpitmuti.

    “Die een” contains a total of 14 songs in English and Afrikaans; lively variety of sing-along hits in a pop or rock style and beautiful ballads like “by my”. Ralph’s personal favorite is “Jy is die een”  – “my first real attempt to write a song.”   He loves “sien jou staan” his good friend Joe F wrote. “It is meant for dancing and just singing a long.”  He recently released the video for sien jou staan.

    His two “princesses”, Angelene and Marlene, also had their part in his second solo album where the sing with their Dad “oë van my kind”, a song that has evoked unprecedented interest in various regional radio stations.

    “I think there’s a song on the CD for each and every one. There is something for the romantic lady or for any man that loves rock and loud guitars, “said the Ralph who want listeners to realize” love is the winner. ”

    In the recording studio it was Tertius Human talent that made every song rock. “I was privileged with the best of the best musicians who shared their talent on my CD.”  It includes people like, Mauritz Lotz (guitar), Vinnie Henrico (drums), Sailor (guitar), Jasper van Rensburg (bass), Andries Botha (guitar), Human (guitar), Massyn (guitar and piano), Hannes van der Walt (vocals), Ezné Bosch (vocals) and Andrew Rose (piano).

    Ralph is a highly talented singer-musician that recorded the Prince’s Purple Rain and Angels of Robbie Williams’ on his new album.   This is simply not just a new usual Afrikaans CD.  It’s an amazing album by one of the country’s most leading pop rockers!
